“The Song of the Other” Duo Syldason: Daniela Tosic, mezzo-soprano and Sylvie Zakarian, marimba

Syldason combines the richness of the human voice with the warmth of the "singing wood,"the marimba. Daniela Tosic (born in former Yugoslavia to Macedonian and Serbian parents) and Sylvie Zakarian (born in Bulgaria to Armenian parents) grew up on the Balkan Peninsula in an era overshadowed by the heavy cloud of the Cold War. Taking inspiration from their shared cultural heritage, Syldason's evocative and unique program, Songs of the Other, honors a long tradition of human migration in search of a safer and more prosperous life. The program will feature music by Gomidas Vartabed, Alan Hovhaness, Neil Grover, Dobri Paliev, and Nikola Radan and Gerge Tanchev.
